Unlike the hot and dry vintages of 2007, 08, 09 and 10 in Australia´s McLaren Vale, the 2011 vintage was the complete opposite with cool and excessively wet weather through the growing season.
Too much rain in very short time let to the loss of the entire crop in the Langhorne Creek vineyards.
Therefore, Noon was neither able to produce a Reserve Shiraz nor their Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
Luckily the estate vineyard performed better and delivered ripe and healthy fruit for the Eclipse bottling.
Due to that the 2011 Eclipse is made from Grenache (~81%), Shiraz (~13%) and Graciano (~6%) all from estate grown grapes.
The young bottle is in perfect condition with a flawless cork.
Deep velvet, crimson. Dark but less dense and lighter than usual.
Vital and beautiful!
Aromas of Fresh Red Fruit forward. Later more Darker, Ripe Berries.
Red and Black Currant, some Raspberry, Plum and even Strawberry.
Little Fruit in Rum. Perfume and Floral characters of mostly Lavander and Viola. Exotic Spices and Fresh Herbs (Basil). Multilayered with Leather, Leaves, traces of Sweetness and Eucalypt.
Very inspiring, fresh and complex!
Intense, Fresh Red Fruits. Berries, Cedar and Gooseberry (!)
Exotic Spices, Herbs (Mint, Basil) and Licorice.
Floral characteristics. Delicate Acidity and little, soft Tannins.
Finishes very long with Fruit, Freshness and a great play of Acidity, fine Tannins and warm Spiciness.
Light mouthfeel with a nice texture and perfect balance!
Full-bodied, but lighter and fresher than expected. Amazing fruit and complexity!
A beautiful wine from an unusual vintage. Softer tannins and lighter structure make this Eclipse very approachable in its youth.
It´s hard to believe that this wine contains 16% alc. since its perfect tune and harmony.
Drink now or keep it for some more years.
